Herons V Cranes

How are Great Blue Herons and Sandhill Cranes different?

  1. Hi Laura: you shared this podcast on the GBH chat one day and I quickly bookmarked it. Now I've found your blog and can let you know how much I enjoyed it.

I learned so much. Now my inflight ID skills will be so much better!

And you have such fabulous photos!

    I'm a fan, now!

Thanks for sharing all that you do for birds.

  2. Hi Laura:

Just wanted to jot another comment to you about this Herons v Cranes 'lesson.'

I ID'd my first American Bittern (in flight!) as part of the Herons (not Cranes) family/group(?) because of the neck during flight.

and just last week, my brother-in-law and I were out birding and he said that he had "never" seen a heron fly with its neck outstretched! I was able to share that one part I've been able to remember from your lesson.

    Thanks Laura!
